Budding Lancashire businessman, Greg Tattersall, and experienced entrepreneur, Jim Wardle, have joined forces to embark upon a joint venture in franchising with discount retailer, Cash Generator.
After completing his degree at university, Greg took some time out travelling in Australia, before returning to the UK determined to start his own business. With ambitious goals for his future, Greg soon realised that franchising was the right option for him, and after receiving a recommendation from a friend, quickly selected top franchise opportunity, Cash Generator.
Keen to establish a solid partnership, Greg enlisted the support of Jim, his mother’s partner, to assist in the business. Jim, who previously owned a design business in Burnley had taken early retirement but was convinced by Greg to set up the joint venture.
The duo opted to open their first store in Burnley, with Greg taking on board the role as the day-to-day manager and Jim as assistant manager.
Greg explains: “I carried out a lot of research into franchising as I believed that it was the right career path for me. Cash Generator was my first choice as discount retail has been a thriving market for many years and looks set to continue.
“Cash Generator boasts a tried and tested business model which is impressive due to its multi income streams, providing all the reassurance I needed that this was the franchise for me.
“Well aware that this was to be my first role as my own boss, I was keen to work in partnership with an experienced businessman to ensure the store was a success, and Jim was just the man.”
Greg and Jim have now been trading in Burnley for almost six months and the joint venture is working well, with the store exceeding targets, especially the buying counter as local shoppers sell unwanted goods for instant cash. With the ability to recycle and re-sell the items, Greg is able to keep his store well stocked with new and nearly new products.
Furthermore, the store has been fitted out with Cash Generator’s improved POS which ensures a modern retail footprint. The famous blue and yellow branding will continue to reflect the retail offering, with merchandise well displayed allowing consumers to browse and buy with confidence. The introduction of a new and improved orange-coloured buying counter will ensure customers feel at ease as they sell unwanted goods while financial services will be promoted via a purple-coloured counter.
Greg knows he made the right choice investing in Cash Generator. He concludes: “I love being my own boss and have thoroughly enjoyed my first few months as a franchisee. It’s rewarding to see all the training and initial hard work come to fruition with a store that is busy and trading well.
“Cash Generator was always the franchise for me and with its exciting expansion plans and new brand identity, it is a thrilling time for the company and those involved. I am keen to be part of the future of the brand and as such have plans to open a number of stores across Lancashire.”
