Dog Franchise Teams Up With Thomas Cook

Barking Mad Ltd , the dog franchise, is becoming the UK’s first travel agent for dogs.

Any dog owner booking a holiday with Thomas Cook or Going Places before the end of February will receive a voucher entitling their dog to a free night’s stay while they’re away.

Richard Dancy, former sales and marketing director at Oscar Pet Foods, has been working with Barking Mad on PR opportunities and made the introduction.

The relationship has snowballed, with franchisees visiting local stores to increase awareness and PR opportunities. The first day back to work in 2009 even included a franchise enquiry from a Going Places contact.

Lee Southern, founder and MD of Barking Mad pet franchise, says:

“Thomas Cook Group is very excited to offer something a little different to their customers.

“We’re acting as the nation’s first ‘Doggy Travel Agent’, which is right up their street as many pet owners are reluctant to travel abroad before they have found appropriate care for their best friend.

“Thomas Cook and our network have been extremely busy taking bookings already this year as it seems there are plenty of bargains to be had.

“The recent cold snap combined with tempting offers of a break in the sun has meant business is great.

“New customers for our network means it’s already a fantastic start to 2009.”

The unique Barking Mad system caters for 10,000 dogs a year while owners go on holiday.

Franchise territories across the UK (and one in Cyprus) have been snapped up since the company launched in 2000 and there are more available in 2009.
