Marketing franchises - a head start in a competitive industry

It's official: marketing is one of the most attractive and profitable industries to be in.

This year saw the title of marketing manager top the list of desirable jobs in the UK, with an average starting salary of £46,000 and the most job openings in the UK at 14,846.

Competition in the industry is fierce despite the demand for marketing – and franchises provide the headstart of a recognised brand, training and support to the potential franchisee.

We take a look at some of the best franchises in the sector.

Spoton.net

Spoton.net is a unique marketing franchise that has its foundations set in website and internet marketing. Since becoming a franchise five years ago, it has continued to grow and expand into the success it is today.

The franchise is based on giving marketing consultations via the ‘it’seeze’ system, which provides an affordable and flexible website for SME businesses. Despite seeming technical, no expertise in design or tech are needed to become a franchisee as the training is provided by the franchise.

This covers: a laptop with the product and business software downloaded; protected territory; first 5 appointments; five day training program; bespoke marketing website; contact database and CRM system; ongoing support from Head Office; a year’s membership of a leading national business network.

Rob Davies, a Spoton.net franchisee in Rydale, was looking for a new business opportunity but didn’t want to start his own business due to the risk. He then got in touch with Spoton.net’s Franchise Director, Matt Baines:

DOR-2-DOR

By utilising a much more traditional form of franchising, DOR-2-DOR stands out from the marketing crowd as a leaflet distribution franchise.

Despite the rapid growth of online marketing, research from the Direct Marketing Association suggests that letterbox marketing has continued to thrive and is currently worth £1bn.

DOR-2-DOR has been trading and operating a successful business model for over 25 years and are part of the Direct Marketers Association (DMA), have been granted a Postcomm by Ofcom, and is recommended by the Approved Franchise Association.

City Local

The City Local franchise promotes local businesses online and offline through Google Search and Local Voucher distribution. It aims to help local people find out about anything they may need in their area, from a new car to drive to a house to live in and content is continually updated on each of the local websites, with news from the BBC, weather reports and even pages.

City Local franchisees make money through contacting local businesses and selling advertising space on the site. As a website business, this can be done from the comfort of the franchisee’s own home – so there’s no need to spend money on the rent of an office.

At £5,750 – £13,900, the initial investment needed is low and so are the overheads. The initial franchise fee includes a local website, 3 days comprehensive training, a bespoke marketing site, business cards, support from the City Local Head Office and marketing material.

EaziLoyalty

Mobile is big business. With the news that Google's new algorithm has the potential to make many small businesses invisible, the focus of many SMEs will be on how to optimise mobile marketing.
